Why do I Prefer Homeschooling? - Marnie Harrington

Why do I Prefer Homeschooling?
-Marnie Harrington

(There's a video about this topic down below after you've read this post, or you could skip to it straight away!)

I've been homeschooling since i was in grade 2. Before that i was attending a little Steiner school for 3 years; Kinder, Prep and grade 1. So I have experienced what it's like to attend school and i feel worthy of making a comparison - homeschooling
definitely takes the cake! I have also occasionally gone to school for a day camp or for a special program. Lots of people have talked to me about their experiences in school and i feel i know a thing or two about what it's like. Here are the things i love most about homeschooling:

-Comfortable work space and environment
Having a regular, comfortable space for creativity is really important to me, but also the fact you can change your workspace whenever you like is a really good freedom that comes with homeschooling. For example, it's okay if you want to work outdoors in the sun instead of at a desk or table inside. Being in the home environment limits stress; it's peaceful and you have all your resources and books around you so you don't have to carry a big heavy bag to school every morning and back in the afternoon.

-Food and snack time
With homeschooling, you aren't forced to eat when you're not hungry and eat when you are! Simple as that! You get to choose your breaks and not be pressured to visit the bathroom at designated times only.

-Holidays!
With homeschooling, you can have sick days whenever you like! Get the most work done in all the good days when you're feeling at your best and take time off when you're feeling your worst! Then, while you're sick, you can quickly recover with bed rest and relaxation ready to accomplish all your schoolwork goals with %110 because you're feeling great! And if you do want to do work on the sick days, you have the option to do it in bed under those warm covers with your parent/teacher/servant attending to all your needs!

-Going at your own pace
With homeschooling, It's exactly like having a personal tutor in all your subjects! In fact, it is a personal tutor in all your subjects! You spend less time on each subject because you have a teacher all to yourself! or maybe to you and a couple of siblings but it's still better than having 1 teacher to 30 kids. You can go at your own pace, and have no pressure to be the best and strive in a subject you don't understand or have no interest in and you can spend as much time on another subject as you want! There aren't other students wasting you time and holding up the whole class waiting for the teacher to attend to their needs because s/he is not as good at that subject and requires extra attention. Homeschooling also encourages independent learning because a parent can leave their child to do their work while they go off and do dishes or something.

There you go! That's my comparison of home-ed to schooling. It does seem a bit one sided though, so just to be fair, here's a point showing why schooling is better than home ed:

-Space and equipment
Schools have labs and libraries. Houses, generally don't. But personally, I've never missed either of those things because I'm not passionate about science and there's a public library less than a block away from my house. Plus have you heard of an e-book? Also there's this great website called 'Oxford Digital' and what it basically is is online textbooks that you can buy and there are tests that come with it and different interactive resources as well!

So what do you like about homeschooling?
