Cooking!

(There's a video down below about this topic after you've read this blog, or you could just skip to it straight away!)

We have friends who are really into all things crafty and creative! Every year for the Geelong show they enter (and win) all sorts of things from knitted dollies to breath-taking
photographs to beautifully decorated cakes! They throw the best birthday parties! Not only because of their gorgeous and delicious cakes but also with their entertaining party games and cute little prizes! Here are some pictures of just some of the birthday cakes they and other homeschoolers have made for the parties that I've had the pleasure of attending!

Because of homeschooling, they've been able to devote the time and effort into learning these handy skills!

Cooking is such a vital skill! For the obvious reason of “we need to eat”. The skill of food preparation is so naturally passed to children at home surrounded by family! Children learning to cook at home is a terrific way for them to bond with their parents, grandparents, siblings or more! There are so many conversations and life lessons to be had over the counter moulding cookies or kneading bread!

I've been cooking a lot lately, probably because it's been so cold!! I've learned so many lessons while cooking! Just handy little things like how to separate eggs, which oven racks are the best to use, how to whip cream, knead bread, effectively do dishes, cook chicken and so much more! For instance, I'm becoming more aware of where the food we eat comes from and how to make healthy choices. Here are some photos of what I've made over my life. As you can see I have quite a sweet tooth!

Today I encourage you, go and make some banana honey and cinnamon muffins with each other and discuss all the philosophical matters of the world or perhaps just what you thought about last night's episode in your family's favourite soap opera series!

Here's a recipe for a Gingernut Torte!
